Margaret Thanos is an award-winning Cypriot-Australian director for the stage and screen, and the Andrew Cameron Fellow (artist in residence) at BELVOIR ST THEATRE.
Margaret’s directing credits include the 5-star sell-out seasons of FURIOUS MATTRESS (25A), POSH (Old Fitz), I HATE PEOPLE; OR TIMON OF ATHENS (Sport for Jove), NOT NOW, NOT EVER: A PARLIAMENT OF WOMEN (25A), A VERY EXPENSIVE POISON (New Theatre), LABYRINTH (Dream Plane Productions) and A GRAIN OF SAND (KXT).
She also has assistant directing credits on GRIEF IS THE THING WITH FEATHERS, AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY, THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME and WELL BEHAVED WOMEN (Belvoir), BENEFACTORS, MR BAILEY’S MINDER (Ensemble), THIS GENUINE MOMENT (Old 505), ANIMAL FARM (New Theatre), ORIGINATE PROJECT (Q Theatre), THE LINDEN SOLUTION (Ratcatch) and THE CHERRY ORCHARD (Chippen St). In 2023, she was awarded the prestigious SANDRA BATES DIRECTOR’S AWARD at Ensemble Theatre.
In 2020, Margaret was a part of Montague Basement's LABORATORY PROGRAM and in 2021 she was a part of ATYP's FRESH INK.
Margaret is also an activist, with a particular focus on gender equality and climate awareness. She is one of PLAN INTERNATIONAL's Advocates and has done extensive interviews and public appearances. Her production company QUEEN HADES PRODUCTIONS has had three sell-out seasons of its feminist sketch comedy show Tough Titties.

Margaret is currently the Andrew Cameron artist in residence at Belvoir St Theatre.
Her next show is as assistant director to Simon Phillips on Belvoir’s new adaptation of Grief is the Thing with Feathers.
